The Sabine National Forest is located in east Texas along the banks of the Toledo Bend Lake. The forest is a prime location for visitors to the area. The forest forms part of the boundary between Texas and Louisiana.

Fishing and hunting are options offered at the national Toledo Bend Lake attraction. The Forest Services works hand in hand with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to provide a prime location for hunters and anglers.


Deer hunting is a popular sport for hunters in the area. And, the lake reservoir offers spectacular fishing for a variety of bass. Numerous lake tournaments are offered on the lake throughout the year.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 18)

FAIR. Water normal stain; 61 degrees; 3.73 feet below pool. Fishing is good for this time of year with a late fall pattern. Bass can be caught with a swim jig, chatterbait, and spinnerbait on the bank in 1-6 feet of water. Then back out to 10-16 feet of water and catch them with a Texas and Carolina rig, or 18-25 feet of water with a spoon or dropshot. Report by Stephen Johnston, Johnston Fishing.
